The Review of Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol

hr_mission-_impossible_-_ghost_protocol_5

"Blamed for the terrorist bombing of the Kremlin, IMF operative Ethan Hunt is disavowed along with the rest of the agency when the President initiates "Ghost Protocol". Left without any resources or backup, Ethan must find a way to clear his agency's name and prevent another attack. To complicate matters further, Ethan is forced to embark on this mission with a team of fellow IMF fugitives whose personal motives he does not fully know. Tom Cruise returns in the starring role as Ethan Hunt and is joined by an international cast that includes Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, Paula Patton, Michael Nyqvist, Vladimir Mashkov, Josh Holloway, Anil Kapoor and Lea Seydoux." - taken from GSC

Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol is a MUST WATCH movie, without a doubt. Although I found that this one was lacking of action and drama, I still enjoyed every bit of it. The story was really well written and the movie was directed equally as good as the previous. However, I still preferred MI3. I thought it was more, real. In the sense of a secret agent living a normal life and the challenges he faces when his wife was involved in one of his mission. Throughout MI3, I was at the edge of my sit and till today, I've not forgotten how I actually felt what was acted through the screen. The moment when he had to electrocute himself to stop the bomb in his head and when his wife tried to revive him was the highlight of MI3, for me at least.

mi-ghost-protocol-still09

What I love about this movie was how it had more sense of humor compared to the rest of MIs. The casts were perfect. Comparing Zoe Zaldana to Paula Patton, I would definitely vote for Paula Patton kicking more asses and breaking more hearts. She is gorgeous and her physicality fits the role of being a secret agent.

Mission+Impossible+Ghost+Protocol_11

I didn't know whether Jeremy Renner was bad or good in this movie because the trailer portrayed him being bad but it turns out, I was wrong and it was pretty good to see him in a good person's role for once. LOL. He can be funny too, I realized!

tom_cruise-mission-impossible-4-01

Last but not least, Tom Cruise at his best, playing the role of Agent Hunt for the 4th time. Only one thing has changed though, he looked older. LOL

What I didnt like was .... Anil Kapoor.

What to expect? Mission Impossible - Ghost Protocol :D (muahahhaahaa)

The Review of Sanctum

Sanctum-1-574848

"Sanctum is a 2011 3D adventure drama film directed by Alister Grierson and executive produced by James Cameron.

During an underwater cave exploration in Papua New Guinea, five people are trapped when a cyclone starts flooding the cave. With the water going up and the air running out, their only hope of survival is to travel through the unexplored underwater caves following the course of the river that leads into the ocean." - taken from Wikipedia.

My first thought of the movie when it ended was "hmmm that was pretty okay" but after a while, I realized that there wasn't much story to the characters.

Sanctum-b

The whole movie is about an underwater exploration and that is what the whole movie is all about! I have nothing much to say actually and the down side of experiencing this movie in 2D is that I did not get to experience the movie in 3D when the movie was made for it's 3D effect and apparently it is, "A 3D Experience That Will Take Your Breath Away" in fine print. So 2D definitely did not take my breath away, I guess 3D will.

My advice to those who actually produce movie posters, PLEASE DO NOT PUT IMPORTANT MESSAGES IN FINE PRINT! We totally did not see the fine print stating that this movie has to be watched in 3D or else we would have gotten tickets for 3D. Wasted our money really. It wasn't cheap as well with RM13 each!

There's nothing much that I love or dislike about this movie because I really don't know how to judge. All I can say is that I did not like some of the characters. Acting wasn't that good. The underwater cave blew me away for a bit because of how monstrous it looked but that was it. Nothing to talk about.

sanctum-movie-photo-07-550x365

What to expect? I wont be able to tell what the 3D version will be like but for the 2D, you can expect something out of a documentary show on Astro. Lot's of water, no fishes, no corals, only caves and whirlpools and caves. That's about it.

The Review of The Green Bee Hornet

greenhornet_14-574x430

"The Green Hornet is a 2011 superhero action-comedy film, based on the character of the same name that had originated in a 1930s radio program and has appeared in movie serials, a television series, comic books and other media. Directed by Michel Gondry, the film stars Seth Rogen, who co-wrote the screenplay with Evan Goldberg. Supporting actors include Jay Chou as Kato, Christoph Waltz, Cameron Diaz, Edward James Olmos, David Harbour, and Tom Wilkinson." - taken from Wikipedia

Renovation aside, we've not been catching up with as many movies as we used to. Back then, each and every movie that came out, we've seen it but it is impossible now to even step foot into any shopping malls, let alone into the cinema for some quality surround-sound-huge-ass-screen movie time. The Green Hornet was an exception. Being used to watching new movies on screen instead of on dvd, we had to at least catch one new flick, and we chose this movie.

green hornet

It is a story of a rich brat who was nothing but a useless piece of living thing living under his father's roof wasting money every second of his useless breathing life and an employee who made coffee every morning for this rich brat whom did not know exists until one morning when he did not get the same coffee he tasted every morning only that he realised he personally fired this employee because he simply wanted to fire him for the fun of it and begged for his return because he simply couldn't live without a good cup of coffee every morning when he wakes.

Ok, the story is actually not about how Britt Reid (Seth Rogen) couldnt live without his coffee, the story basically starts that way and somewhere along the days when he got to know his coffee maker, Kato (Jay Chou), he also discovered how they could team up as super heros to do good for the society and make his late father proud.

green hornet 2

What I love about this movie is that it made me laugh and did my money to good use. I wasn't too keen on watching this movie because I personally did not like Jay Chou. He totally ruined Initial D for me as I had high hopes for it. So, asking me to watch a movie that he is acting in again plus a movie that Seth Rogen is in had my expectations for this movie to be zero. It's not that I don't like Seth Rogen and his movies. It's just that I prefer watching intellectual movies with meaningful substances to it and when there's Seth Rogen in it, I can pretty much throw away that expectation as well. However, this movie is an exception. I actually enjoyed it because it is not some brainless sorta shit. I would say, it was quite meaningful the way Reid turned around and became a useful person. You've no idea how funny this movie is eventhough Jay Chou is still not up to my acting standard quality but at least he could pronounce his English better and I could finally understand what he was trying to say. We watched it in 3D but it wasn't necessary because the cinema was sold out of 2D and we didn't wanna wait for another hour for the next one so we took 3D instead. Oh, and the bad guy in this show is extremely funny! Won't tell you anything of it, you must watch it to understand how Benjamin Chudnofsky-the-what sky? (Christoph Waltz) rocked the start of the show.

What to expect? Alot of CGI. Alot of action, not the serious kind actually. If you are expecting a semi-mindless flick, just for the laughs then this is the movie to watch.

The Review of The Other Guys

The Other Guys-1

"The Other Guys is a 2010 comedy film directed and co-written by Adam McKay, starring Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg, and featuring Dwayne Johnson, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Keaton, Eva Mendes, Steve Coogan, and Ray Stevenson." - taken from Wikipedia

I know it doesnt say much about the movie but this movie - A MUST WATCH MOVIE! At first I blew this movie off because I didn't like the idea of Mark Wahlberg to be in a comedy. Moreover, Will Ferrell's comedies are pretty much brainless but funny. I thought it would probably down grade Mark Wahlberg as one of the A-list action actor.

The Other Guys-3

It is a story of these two detectives, Allen Gamble (Will Ferrell) and Terry Hoitz (Mark Wahlberg). They were the most over shadowed officers in their department and most of the officers have no respect for them. When Detectives Danson (Dwayne Johnson) and Highsmith (Samuel L. Jackson), who were both heroes of the law enforcement team "accidentally died" during a pursue, the opportunity to outshine others was placed right in front of Terry Hoitz and Allen Gamble. Continue watching for the full story because that is all I will spill!

What I love about this movie is that not only it is hilarious, it was actually acted out in a serious manner which made it even funnier! Mark Wahlberg shown another side of him in this show which I've never seen before and trust me, he actually made me laugh and for the first time Will Ferrell put on a straight face while acting in a comedy This is not some stupid comedy movie, although there were some scenes which made me go WHAT THE..but it was actually so stupidly funny that it made sense! I know you don't get me but you'll have to watch to know. Besides, Michael Keaton's quoting lyrics without realising it was hilarious! Again, you'll have to watch to get what I am saying.

The Other Guys-2

What I didnt like about the movie was how they made Mark Wahlberg a little bit weird in character. I mean he was like the loser of the detectives. Something a fan of his might not love watching.

What to expect? An out of the ordinary comedy :D

The Review of Letters to Juliet

letters-to-juliet-poster-0

Letters to Juliet is a 2010 American romantic comedy film starring Amanda Seyfried, Chris Egan, Vanessa Redgrave, Gael García Bernal, and Franco Nero. Directed by Gary Winick, the film was released theatrically in North America and other countries on May 14, 2010. - taken from Wikipedia

It is a whole story about "What if you had a second chance to find true love?".

Sophie Hall (Amanda Seyfried) is a fact checker at The New Yorker magazine who dreams of becoming a writer, went on e pre-honeymoon trip with her fiance to Verona, Italy. Sophie goes sightseeing and comes across the house where Juliet Capulet supposedly lived and watches in awe as numerous people gather to write letters to Juliet about their loves and post them on Juliet's Wall. Her journey starts when she followed one of Juliet's secretaries back to their Headquarters and vonluntered herself to be one of them and began replying on of the letters she collected from Juliet's wall..

What I love about the show is that it's such a romantic cliche chick flick. The fact that it's always a girl liking a guy she couldnt have and then losing the guy and misunderstanding him and then found out what happened and have a happy life together, the end. I also love the note that she wrote back to Clair (the old lady who was looking for her long lost love). It was so touching..(only that part) and the fact that I get to see Christopher Egan's charming face. I was sight seeing more of Italy than watching the film. The place is beautiful! One day, I am going to go there and spend at least more than a week exploring the romantic city!

DF-05352

Despite hearing that my friends cried watching this show, I did not seem to find this movie touching at all. Probably I am not as emotional as some of the girls I know or because I prefer mature romantic films like P.S I Love You or The Notebook (I am old like that!), but I probably didn't enjoy the film that much because I am not a fan of Amanda Seyfried. She always had the same role, as in Dear John as well and I found Dear John to be rather boring. However, Channing Tatum is so damn HOT! Anyway, what I didn't like about this movie is the fact that Christopher Egan had a British accent. Somehow I just found it so funny because it reminded me of the baby character in Family Guy! Get what I mean? It's hilarious! I preferred it when he acted in that King show series. He was much sexier there.

What to expect? A very subtle chick love story. Nothing you've never seen. You probably know how it ends from the start. Come to think of it, that was exactly what one of my friends told me!

The Review of Ong Bak 3

Ong_Bak_3

Finally caught Ong Bak 3 yesterday night on DVD and it was really clear! I was amazed because I didnt really expect it to be so clear and the subtitles were correct! For once! Anyway, I am not even going to bother copying and pasting Wikipedia's plot of Ong Bak 3 because it is way too long, same as how I would define the entire show.

First of all, I loved every Tony Jaa's movie up until this one. It started where Ong Bak 2 ended with him killing his "father" and Lord Rajasena had him captive. So, long story short..without spoiling the movie for you.. I found that the whole movie was about him growing beard, becoming God, shaving beard, dancing, growing beard, becoming God, grow more beard and then fight.

I truly did not enjoy the movie at all. It was exceptionally long winded. His fighting scenes were boring because they all consist of the same moves. There's a part where he sort of pulled out a huge statue which made the entire movie really fake.

My conclusion is, they've got no more ideas for this movie therefore, they dragged Tony Jaa's recovering period almost 80% of the show. Oh, and at one point he actually saw the future. WTF!

What to expect? Yawns

The Review of Devil : The Night Chronicles

57916_433071537755_751202755_5309069_246942_n

I attended a special screening of the recent released movie, Devil (1st of The Night Chronicles) at Cathay E@Curve two days ago courtesy of Hot Magazine.
I happened to come across their shout out post on Facebook and was one of their lucky first 4 commentors which won me a pair of movie passes.

"Devil (also known as The Night Chronicles: Devil) is a supernatural thriller based on a story by M. Night Shyamalan, written by Brian Nelson, and directed by John Erick Dowdle. The film was released on September 17, 2010, and is the first of The Night Chronicles trilogy,[1] which involves the supernatural within modern urban society.

Five strangers are trapped in an elevator in a Philadelphia office tower. After many strange and terrifying things happen to the group, they realize the Devil is amongst them in human form." - taken from Wikipedia

Truth to be told, I have never been a fan of M. Night Shyamalan's series of film. I've watched The Village, The Happening and both of them had very good story build up but sucky endings. The worst part for all movie viewers to go through is a bad ending, or an ending which never ends or an ending which made no sense at all and M. Night Shyamalan has done it all for me.

Watching Devil was good enough to put my hopes up again for M. Night Shyamalan movies because I actually enjoyed the whole show. Well, a bonus as well when my seat was directly in front of the screen just 4 rows from the front. Imagine feeling everything there was to offer while watching a movie in the cinema. Direct screen where my eyes could not even focus on all four corners all at once. Sound blasting at my ears from every corner of the room. Excellent seat I had, watching a thriller movie. The only problem was, I closed my eyes when I know the scary parts were coming. No, actually I peeked between my fingers so I still know what was going on so that I can blog about this movie. It is really worth blogging about.

What I love about this movie is the suspense! However timid I may be, I absolutely love watching horror movie. It's the thrill of accelerated heart beat + suspense that keeps me interested. Throw me any supernatural films at any time and I'll watch it. My favourite will still be Constantine. Nothing beats Keanu Reeve in his bad boy white shirt loose tie attire fighting the devil. Anyway, back to this movie. There was a saying that when the Devil plans to collect souls of the sin, he will group them up together in one place and torture them one by one and leave the last one to be tortured in front of his/her loved one. I had trouble pin pointing who was the Devil in disguise in the show and was pretty sure of who it was after that but was blown away when the Devil revealed itself. Absolutely brilliant!

What I didn't like about his movie was the fact that innocent people who were helping out need not die. There was also a saying that the Devil kills those who are in his way. I didn't like the look of the cop. OK that is irrelevant but seriously, the only cute guy was aka Ryan Phillipe lookalike! Other than that nobody else but yes, we are watching a movie created by a genius, not to watch the leng chais acting in it. Anyway, there wasn't much I didn't like about the movie.

What to expect? Alot of heart stopping suspense.

Give this movie a shot because I truly loved it. Enjoyed every minute of it and make sure that if you do watch this movie, pick the scariest seat in the cinema which is the front few rows. Guarantee to scare you to the max! Get your money's worth, I'd say!

The Review of The Expendables

The-Expendables-Banner

I went for the premiere of The Expendables last night at Cineleisure, thanks to Nuffnang for giving me two exclusive tickets :) 40 best nuffnangers' entry were picked to catch The Expendables before it was officially released in the cinemas and I was one of em, thanks to baby genius. All we've got to do was submit our answers in reply to, "how far you would go to accomplish a military mission."

"The Expendables is an ensemble action-war film written by Dave Callaham and Sylvester Stallone, and directed by Stallone. Filming began on March 28, 2009, in Rio de Janeiro, New Orleans, and Los Angeles, and the film will be released on August 13, 2010. The film pays tribute to the blockbuster action films of the 1980s and early '90s, and stars an array of action veterans from those decades, including Stallone himself, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke, and Jet Li, as well as more recent stars such as Jason Statham, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, and Steve Austin.

A team of elite, highly-trained mercenaries known as The Expendables are sent into South America to overthrow a ruthless cold-blooded dictator. But once the mission begins, they discover a plot far more sinister than they were led to believe. With innocent lives in the balance, The Expendables are forced to take on an even more difficult challenge." - taken from Wikipedia

What I love about this movie is the humour and the non-stop action pack an action movie can give. It was really funny to watch all the A-list action movie actors in this show, including a few WWE members. The funniest part throughout the whole movie was when Stallone replied to Bruce Willis on Arnold's attitude problem. I am not going to spoil it for you, just because you have to hear it for yourself to burst out laughing.

What I didn't like about this movie is other than the whole blowing up agenda and the funny parts, there's really nothing much of an intelligence to the story. I am such a sucker for intelligent movies and usually watching guy flicks ain't my thing. However, I particularly enjoyed A-Team :) I also didn't like to see how unimportant some of the A-list actors were in the movie. I thought Jet Li could have had more role as Yang. He only had one fighting scene and I was quite disappointed. Visual effect wise, could have been better.

What to expect? Loads of destruction

The Review of Inception

inception-poster

After numerous failed attempts to purchase two sets of tickets for Inception, we finally got them on Sunday! Everyone was talking about this movie, of how this is the most brilliant show made by Christopher Nolan ever (apart from The Dark Knight). I was exceptionally excited to watch this movie, not because of all the hype created by people on Facebook but because of Leonardo diCaprio. When there's a show with him acting in it, you'll be guranteed a brilliant one. Such as, Inception.

Inception is a 2010 American science fiction action film written, produced, and directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Ken Watanabe, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Ellen Page, Marion Cotillard, Tom Hardy, and Cillian Murphy. The film is inspired by the experience of lucid dreaming and dream incubation. The film, a variant on the heist genre, centers on Dom Cobb, an "extractor", who enters the dreams of others to obtain information that is otherwise inaccessible. His abilities and questions about the death of his wife have cost him his family and his nationality, but he is promised a chance to regain his old life in exchange for planting an idea in a corporate target's mind. This process of planting an idea, known as "inception", is less familiar and far more difficult than Cobb's usual job of "extraction".

What I love about this movie is how it is made for the mind of intelligence. I am a fan of these kind of shows because it manipulates the mind, uses the brain and plays with your insanity. Ok, I don't know what I just said but basically, I love intelligent shows ok? and this show is beyond intelligent. It's extraordinarily out of this world! I love how Christopher Nolan played with the whole dream process where there are layers and layers of dreams. The movie is extremely detailed to the fact that if you miss just a second of the show, you'd be lost. I love the fact that they've taken us into this illusion idea that being in people's dream and manipulating them might be possible in the future. There is nothing I dislike bout this show because I love everything about it. This is a really good show. An extremely mind blowing show which will leave you wanting more at the end *which was why I sat through the entire credits hoping for more but was greeted by cinema lights and janitors instead.

You will be guranteed : A journey through dreams :)

The Review of Despicable Me

Last Saturday, we caught Despicable me at GSC Midvalley and it was a pretty good show. Almost everyone that has caught the show mentioned that it is one of the best cartoons shown so far and these claims are totally true! The show is good.

Despicable Me is a 2010 American computer-animated 3-D feature film from Universal Studios and Illumination Entertainment that was released on July 9, 2010 in the United States with considerable critical and financial success. The film stars Steve Carell, Jason Segel, Russell Brand, Julie Andrews, Will Arnett, Kristen Wiig, and Miranda Cosgrove.

The story is of a supervillain named Gru who plans to use three orphan girls as pawns for a grand scheme, only to find that their innocent love is profoundly changing him.

What I love about the movie is how they've characterized Gru as a mean person. With his pointy witch nose and huge Frankenstein upper body made him looked pretty evil but as he started adopting these 3 little orphan girls, to initially make them help him steal a device from his arch enemy by selling cookies, he started realizing the love he has for these 3 girls and his good side started to show and in reality, he is an actual softie at heart.

Not to forget, the Minions. Minions are these little yellow potato like creatures working for Dr Gru. They are absolutely adorable and I can see why people tend to be obsessed with the Minions *some of my facebook friends are talking about adopting Minions..

despicable_me_wallpaper_11

This show actually topped the US chart at No.1 followed by Eclipse! Who on earth thought that there's any movie which will top Eclipse at the charts when they are supported by millions of crazy fans all around the world and Despicable Me is just a 3D cartoon?

You will be guaranteed : laughing at most parts of the show, heart melting moments which involves the 3 girls, and reaching-out-to-pinch the minions when they laugh.
