Sunny Day 3 at Long Beach, Perhentian Island

1
2

Day 3 was what I called, a beach day. The sun was at its' peak, burning every skin cell I have, or had. We took a walk to the other side of the beach, which required some trekking in the woods. Nothing prepared me for the uphill and downhill climb.Seriously.

By the time we emerged from the woods to the other part of the beach, I WAS BREATHLESS.

6

Before we planned this trip to Bubu Long Beach, we actually had a "free" voucher to stay at Shari La but in the end we decided to give that up because there were so many additional fees that the total came up so much more compared to what we would have paid for at a normal rate. There's really no such thing as "free" anymore.

Surprisingly, we actually walked through Shari La from the jungle to the beach and we couldn't be more happier to decide to stay at Bubu because Shari La was ... crap. Long Beach still is the best part of Perhentian Kecil because this other side of the beach didn't have much going on and the sand wasn't that smooth. After exploring a little, we decided to head back where we came from.

If you are on Long Beach, and would love to check out the other side of the beach, all you have to do is walk towards World Cafe, there's a side walk towards your right (if facing World Cafe). Take that path. It will lead you to the other side. Be prepared for monitor lizards and VERY steep uphill climbs.

After plenty of huffs and puffs, we decided to rest at World Cafe. World Cafe is run by the same owner of Bubu Long Beach Resort, only that World Resort is catered to honeymooners who prefer a quiet beach time, service of higher standard and really nice rooms but rates starts from RM700+ a night. By the time we settled down on one of the seats, overlooking the sea.. I was sweating so much that if they made a difference in weight, I would have lost tons! Great workout nonetheless.

For the rest of the day, we lazed by the beach. Had sandwich for tea. Dipped and sun tanned. Made silly jumps and stunts. It was the perfect beach day.

Closer to sunset, the clouds came rolling in. It was scary how dark the clouds were. We thought it was going to rain buckets but soon after, they went away.

There were giant monitor lizards on the resort ground. Workers of the resort were actually throwing raw chicken to feed them. I guess it is so that they don't come barging into the area for food if they keep doing that. Hopefully the lizards don't breed too much and eventually take over the island.

When it was time, we headed over to Panorama Cafe for another round of awesome food and comedy for dinner. This time, the hubs ordered something from the BBQ menu and I had one of their signature chicken in cream sauce which was really really good! Though they took pretty long to prepare them. Then we chilled while they played What To Expect When You Are Not Expecting. I love Elizabeth Banks! I find her super funny.

So, that concluded our vacation of 2012. We usually do island trips once a year. Could have been more, but there's the wedding coming. Probably more to come after the wedding, then! Boy, I miss the beach alot.

Oh, speaking of beach. Clothes For Fun just launched a new beachwear line called Malibu Beachwear. Here are some bikinis from Malibu Beachwear. Click on any of the photos to be directed to the actual site :)

Hipsters, doodles, and oodles of noodles

So, came the weekend. It was the usual head scratching moment where we didn't know what to have for lunch. All I was thinking of, "Please, no more Antipodean Cafe.." and we had a launch to go for at 2pm around Bangsar. We decided to have lunch around the area. So, Julian suggested Canoodling.

Canoodling, walked passed it many times but never had the interest to give the restaurant a try. Why? Because I don't really give Chinese restaurants a try. I don't fancy eating high class noodles. For me, noodles must always be paired with hawker stalls because there's no way I would pay RM20 for a bowl of noodles.

BUT Canoodling proved me wrong.

20

Canoodling is a casual yet snazzy noodle house serving a large variety of Pan-Asian bowl food; from salads and main dishes, to small bites, refreshing drinks and Asian-inspired desserts, all at affordable prices.

A familiar looking chinese exercise book, along with a few printed sheets of paper and a folded menu were handed to us and inside each of them are a variety of rice, noodles, desserts and drinks to pick from.

We placed our orders and while waiting for our food to arrive, began noticing how quirky the place looked, brightly painted yellow walls, decorated with hanging pot lamps, amusing illustrations about noodles written on slate walls and right in front of us, a can of multi-colored crayons for us to doodle on a white mahjong paper table cover. So, being me, I doodled.

Soon after, our food came and we were all equally satisfied with how good the food looked and tasted. The right word to describe Canoodling's food is exotic. Take for instance, the Crispy Duck Salad that I ordered.

7

Crispy mesclun leaves and pineapple chunks, tossed with orange dressing, garnished with coriander and spring onions. Took a bite and every taste buds I had literally craved for more. The duck was really tender. The leaves tasted zesty and sweet which came from the pineapple and orange dressing and it was just perfect! I have never tasted such a delicious Asian salad in my entire life and I am definitely heading back for more. All that flavor for only RM12.90!

9

The hubs had a try with their Dry Curry Chicken Noodles at RM13.90. I had a taste of the curry, and it was delicious. Light with santan but full of curry goodness, it was really good.

10

Julian ordered a bowl of Braised Beef Brisket Noodles at RM14.90. I didn't get to try the beef but had a spoonful of soup. Soup was actually pretty tasty and light. It didn't have that overwhelming beefy taste which is good and they were pretty generous with the meat. Meat was tender and yummy, according to the hubs because he had a try.

8

Overall, everything we ordered was pretty amazing. Well, except for the side dish that Julian wanted to try. Tempura Kangkong at RM5.90. There wasn't any Kangkong taste, except for the oily tempura batter. So, only if you would like to eat flour all the way, else I would advice you to give this one a miss.

Right after Canoodling, we went straight for the launch of Bazarro, Loaded Inc and Unity Store KL. It was a pretty interesting launch because the owners personally flew a group of lion dance performers from Hong Kong for the event.

It brought back memories of Chinese New Year when lion dance performances can be seen all around Kuala Lumpur. Shopping malls, offices and homes will celebrate CNY by having a group of lion dance performers dancing in front of their entrance to welcome this auspicious time of the year. It is for good luck.

Of macarons, pastels, & all things sweet

DSC09173

The other day, baby surprised me by bringing home two boxes of macarons from an event he attended. Macarons made specially by Nathalie's Gourmet. Nathalie's Gourmet is a quaint little French Restaurant located at Solaris Dutamas. As I recalled, their mains were really delicious and they have one of the best homemade macarons. So, when I got the box of macarons, I did not hold back. Silly me, ate all at one go and felt absolutely sick in the stomach. BUT it was really really good, especially the one in caramel. Oolala!

After complaining like a million times about how my hair is a complete disaster and probably half dead, I FINALLY went over to Curlers & Trimmers to get my hair fixed! My attempt at making my hair "wavy" by perming it did not turn out to be a smart move because at that time, I didn't realize that I couldn't comb my hair once I've permed and as a result, my hair tend to be in knots which was really painful to my scalp. So ladies, think really REALLY hard if you want to go for permanent perm. I wouldn't do it again if you dared me to.

Made an appointment at Curlers last Tuesday and sat for approximately 6 hours till Nani (my stylist) chemically transformed my hair into a beautiful sheet of satin! That was exactly how it felt! I went through the process of Relaxing, which is actually similar to Rebonding but less damaging and more natural looking. I specifically told Nani that I really want wavy ends and not straight ends, so she made sure to curl my hair during the process of Relaxing so that my ends will end up the way I want them to. It's usually not in the process of Relaxing to have wavy ends but if you want your hair to be that way, make sure to let your stylist know or else you'll end up with straight ends.

Curlers & Trimmers is located at Desa Sri Hartamas and I've never been disappointed by them. They are really professional and know what they are doing. Also, I love how they don't insist on making small talks. I sat the whole 6 hours reading magazines and my novel. If you are interested in giving them a try, you can contact them at 03-2300 1938. Oh, and they are having an on going promotion of 20% off on any hair services every Monday to Wednesday. Good luck!

By the way, I've just updated Clothes For Fun with really lovely lace pieces. Have a look!
