DIY-ed Projects : Lace Candle Jars

photo 2

I love how these lace candle jars turned out. They are exactly like what I've imagined. I am going with a lace themed wedding of neutrals and mostly beige. My maid of honor and bridesmaids will be in lace as well, I will be in lace, the table setting in the ballroom will be in ivory lace and I pretty much want these jars to be in lace too!

Again, I have to thank Pinterest for giving me this idea of making these jars possible. The mason jars are pretty hard to find, and so far I've only managed to come across one supplier nearby. Not really sure if there's more around but most likely there are. I don't know. Once I found this one, I didn't bother to look anymore.

During CNY, the hubs and I went to get around 120 bottles. 60 short ones and 60 tall ones. It would be nice to have a mixture of tall and short as a table center piece. As for the extras, I thought of decorating them on the reception table.

Then there's that place, Sin Wah at PJ Old Town. I mentioned earlier that they have crazy loads of stuff and I'm really not exaggerating. Here's an idea of a single lace ribbon sample column. They have another 3, so yea. However, I only managed to find the one that I really like and thankfully, it was priced at RM1.80/m as I needed 30m for all of my jars. I was quite pleased that I only had to spend a total of RM48 for the lace wrap. That was when the boss gave me a RM0.20 discount each meter for buying so much.

I really liked this one but it was RM20/m, so I had to give it up

To have everything you need to make a lace candle jar, you need a jar (duh!), lace wrap, glue gun (RM13), glue stick and a whole lot of band aid. Burnt my hand twice so far and I still have 36 more to go!

So there ya go! A simple DIY Lace Candle Jar for my wedding table centerpiece. Great for those who are on a budget, and they look stunning! Can't wait to see them all lit up on that day! 2 more months now :D

DIY-ed Projects : New collars for my furballs

After going through some DIY & Crafts inspirational photos on Pinterest, I had this idea to do-it-myself cat collars for both my cats. I used to make friendship bands when I was younger, so all I needed were the threads, bells, some loops, and probably one or two additional stuff.

There's this place at PJ Old Town that I was told, called Sin Wah. They have tons of crafty knick-knacks for sale and I needed some lace wraps for the recycled mason jars that I bought for the wedding, so both the hubs and I took a trip down to check out that place. Anyway, I'll blog about that in another post because this is mainly for the cat collars. I managed to get everything I needed for the collars and the total came up to less than RM10, which saves a tiny bit of money as compared to those retailing outside but the whole point is the love I put into these two collars for the two fluffballs that I love so much. Lucky cats :B

Everything you need to make two cat collars.

We wanted to match the collars with their eyes, so we've chosen Blue for Manja and Orange for Mojo. Love the shades we picked out for them, plus I added a jewel to each of the collars to make it a tad bit different from others out there.

And the FINAL RESULTS after a few days!

DIY-ed Projects : Walk-in-Wardrobe

curtains

AND MY WALK-IN-WARDROBE IS DONE...after moving in close to two years. Can you imagine, two years of clothes draping here and there. Stocks lying about. No dresser, no full length mirror and the worst was, not enough room to walk about. Even the railing which I used to hang my clothes was missing a leg and it took up most of the walking space and I had to make do with squeezing about the room, looking for stuff.

A walk-in-wardrobe for me was definitely the plan, but we delayed it for 2 whole years because of the money factor and everybody knows that a custom one could cost a zillion! So one day, hubs was wondering if we could custom make a whole wardrobe using IKEA's shelves and with the few visits that we made to IKEA few months back gave us plenty of ideas how to make it happen.

Cupcakes

So we bought the shelves, bought some curtain hooks and railings for my clothes, gotten some storage boxes, chose a brand new curtain to lighten up the room, cupcake trays for my make up thingies (saves space by stacking things up), grabbed hold of a grey discounted rug which was selling really fast (the next day we went to IKEA again, it was GONE!), and made do with some old stuff about the house.

Once we were done with the whole room, I just couldn't believe it. I loved the transformation. Friends & family who have been into this room once, know how big a transformation from a plain to-do room into this. All that with the effort of my other half, working and hammering well into the night. We've probably spent 1/4 of what it may have costed us if we were to get a contractor to custom make one. I've always had a thing for DIY pieces and the fact that I get to be in a room where everything was self-made, makes the room a whole lot special. :)
